Reasons

You’ll face serious problems if the payroll service stops running on your QBDT, as it can hinder employee payroll, impacting your business negatively. Here are some possible circumstances under which the payroll tasks malfunction in the software-

  • Intuit servers fail to recognize you as an active payroll service user due to expired subscriptions or billing issues during renewal.

  • The Service key or EIN you entered in the software isn’t correct, and the software fails to execute payroll tasks due to it.

  • Your system isn’t allowed to access the internet due to Windows Firewall restrictions or incorrect internet settings in Windows.

Solutions

The payroll tasks in QBDT won’t start, or they’ll crash in the middle until you resolve the issues hindering the payroll service. The following methods are effective to fix the payroll issues and ensure the service doesn’t malfunctions again-

Solution 1- Update your billing details and ensure QBDT runs in single-user mode while sending payroll

You face problems using the payroll service and performing any related task when some billing issues occur during payroll service renewal. The servers fail to validate the renewal, and you are considered an unauthorized payroll user. Another thing you must consider is running the software in single-user mode when you send the payroll, as QBDT sometimes develops issues running in multi-user mode. You must use the following steps to resolve the billing issues-

  1. Launch QBDT after rebooting the system and click the File menu.

  2. Go to the Utilities option in the list and click Stop hosting multi-user access.

  3. Sign in to the Customer Account Management Portal (CAMP) using your QB Admin account credentials.

  4. Navigate to the Product & Services column and select your QuickBooks Desktop version.

  5. Click the Details option and select the Payment Method.

  6. Tap Edit and enter all the billing information again.

  7. Open QBDT and hover over the Help menu.

  8. Select Manage My License in the options list and click Sync License Data online.

If the payroll service still fails to run, move to the next solution.

Solution 2- Get the latest tax table updates

This issue can also occur if the payroll service isn’t updated to the latest version. Apply the following steps to update the payroll in QBDT-

  1. Approach the Employees menu of your QBDT and click Get payroll updates.

  2. Find your tax table version beside You are using tax table version: and ensure the version is correct by clicking Payroll update info.

  3. Hit the Download Entire update option and click Update
