What causes the QBDT subscription lapse?

You might experience the subscription lapse issue randomly while working on your QuickBooks. The software malfunctions and fails to execute any accounting task thereafter. The possible reasons that trigger this QBDT subscription lapse issue are discussed below-

  • The file containing your license and product details (entitlement data store) might have been damaged.

  • Your subscription renewal details aren’t synced with the Intuit servers correctly, and you are considered an unauthorized user.

  • Some billing issues occurred during the payment for subscription renewal.

Simple ways to remove the error from your QuickBooks

Until you get rid of the error, you cannot log into QuickBooks because of an expired subscription. The accurate methods to eliminate the issue from your computer are mentioned underneath-

Solution 1- Update the payment details of your subscription

You’ll come across a ‘Sorry it looks like you need a subscription to start using QuickBooks’ error message while launching the software. This mostly happens when the software fails to sync your subscription details with the Intuit servers. You need to update your billing info in the Customer Account Management Portal (CAMP) to rectify the issue from your computer. Until then, the servers will fail to authorize your sign-in, and you won’t be able to use QuickBooks. Apply these steps-

  1. Sign in to the Customer Account Management Portal (CAMP) using your QBDT Admin account credentials.

  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop in the Product & Services column and hit the Details option available on the side of your QBDT product.

  3. Tap Edit in the Payment Method section and enter all the billing details asked on the screen.

  4. Review that the details are correctly entered and tap Save & Close.

  5. Open your QuickBooks and navigate to the Help menu.

  6. Go to the Manage My License option and click Sync License Data Online.

If the subscription issue appears again, proceed to the next method.

Solution 2- Recreate the QBDT license file

You can also come across the QuickBooks Desktop has expired issue if the entitlement data store file gets damaged on your system. You need to recreate the .ecml file using the following steps to get rid of the issue-

  1. Close your QBDT and go to the Run window (Windows+R).

  2. Enter C:\Program Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\V8 in the command section and press Enter. Try V6 instead of V8 if a folder doesn’t open.

  3. Search for the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file in the folder and select Delete after you right-click on the file.

  4. Click the Yes option for confirmation and relaunch your QuickBooks.

  5. Register your product and license details again using the instructions on the screen.
