Avoid complex procedures by fixing the error with the assistance of a QB support team reachable at 1.855.738.2784.

Reasons

This error message comes up in QuickBooks before the multi-user network fails to establish. The common reasons for hosting issues in your QBDT are mentioned below-

  • One or more of your workstations try accessing the file while running in multi-user mode.

  • QuickBooks Database Server Manager has stopped running in the background due to improper setup.

  • The Network Descriptor file fails to run due to damage or corruption caused by a virus attack.

Solutions

You won’t be able to work on your company file until you resolve this issue from your QuickBooks. The simple and effective methods to deal with this hosting error in QBDT are discussed below-

Solution 1- Setup the Database Server Manager correctly

Database Server Manager plays a significant role in setting up the multi-user network in your QBDT and ensuring the systems don’t face issues while accessing the company file. The multi-user network might fail, and you won’t be able to host a data file if the DBSM turns unresponsive or stops running in the background. This happens if it gets blocked by the Windows Firewall or faces issues while running due to interruption of other programs. You must apply these steps to set up the DBSM on your Windows-

  1. Launch the Run window on your PC using the Windows + R keys.

  2. Type ‘Services.msc’ in the command field and press Enter to view all the services running on your computer.

  3. Search for QuickBooksDBXX in the list and right-click on it to open the Properties.

  4. Move to the General tab and ensure the Startup type is set to Automatic instead of Manual.

  5. Navigate to the Recovery tab and select Restart the service for the First Failure, Second Failure, and Subsequent Failure options.

  6. Click the Apply option to save the settings and close the Window.

Solution 2- Ensure the QBDT hosting settings are adequate to share the data file

This issue mostly appears if the workstations start using the multi-user mode. Apply the following steps to ensure only the server computer uses the multi-user mode and all the other workstations run in single-user mode-

  1. Go to the QBDT File menu on your workstation and click Utilities.

  2. Select Stop hosting multi-user access from the options and open QuickBooks on the server computer.

  3. Navigate to the File menu and select Host multi-user access in the Utilities option.
